Our Story

On a sunny summers evening 8 years ago, we never thought a night out with friends would lead to the start of our love story. He was on a break from overseas for 3 weeks and she was out for a friend’s birthday, all it took was a cheeky wave across the bar and that was the spark that ignited it all.

What followed was 2 weeks of constant dates that included shooting guns, romantic meals, spending all the time we could together and just falling in love.

From there we lived in your little cottage, made memories that will last a lifetime in Raheen, adopted out little doggy Henry and now our love nest in the countryside.

The Proposal

From Aoife’s perspective:
It was a bitterly cold day. Steven kept asking me to get out of the house and go to the beach. He has asked me for 4 days straight at this point and I kept saying “no”, so I reluctantly agreed. Off we went with our doggy with us, blissfully unaware about how what was about to happen. We got to the beach… a beach I go to all the time, and I gave directions for the wrong entrance, what are the chances! We get there and the blast from the Irish ocean has me freezing. My compromise for going for a walk was to change beach to Kilkee where it would be sheltered a little bit from the breeze.

We get there and all I remember was him saying “I’ve been wanting to ask you this for a long time” and he is on one knee! He told me I kept him waiting for ages to answer. It felt like time was frozen still and it was just me and him in that moment and of course I said yes.

From Steven’s perspective:
After a long time of waiting to propose, the day had finally come where it seemed like the perfect time. With a lot of help from my to-be sister-in-law to be Niamh, we coordinated the perfect plan for the proposal. After convincing Aoife to take Henry for a walk on the beach, we finally set out for the day to Kilkee. Aoife was adamant she wanted to go for a walk on Doughmore bay and knew a quicker way to get there. After back roads and wrong turns we finally got there. Faced with typical Irish winter weather, Aoife refused to go for a walk so we headed to Kilkee instead.
Flustered by the change, we finally got to Kilkee and as soon as we hit the beach, my heart started pounding with nerves. When I finally got the courage to ask her and got the question out, it felt like an eternity as she left me hanging, so I had to ask a second time. With that she said yes! Unbeknownst to us, there was a crowd of walkers on the prom who began to cheer for us.
We headed home, and we were met with a romantic candle lit entrance home and wedding music all organised and prepped by Aoife’s amazing sister Niamh. It was the only part of the plan that worked out perfectly, but I couldn’t be happier.

Helpful Information

As the capital city of the ever-popular Costa del Sol, Malaga is home to some of Spain’s most stunning coastline.

From its stunning port and beautiful old town, to its multitude of quirky galleries and tapas bars; it’s easy to see why it’s considered Andalusia’s leading cultural and historical hub. Let’s not forget the fact that it’s sunny almost all year round!

We would advise you to stay in Nerja, a beautiful Spanish only 25 minutes from the wedding venue.  This is where other events will be occurring.

Nerja is a resort town along southern Spain’s Costa del Sol. Its seafront promenade, Balcón de Europa, tops a promontory with views of the Mediterranean and surrounding mountains. Below it lie sandy beaches and cliffside coves.
